Being a confident parent
We have got a whole ecourse on
how to be a confident parent, but here are some quick suggestions
for how to confidently parent, even though it's a tough job!
Who ever said that parenting is easy?
No one I know, and certainly none
of the experts!
Creating and raising another individual
is hard work, but the world wouldn't be so populated if it wasn't
at least doable.
So, with that, here are some tips
for being a confident parent, and successfully getting through the
many phases of child rearing.
Find resources and get support
Support groups, books from experts,
online communities, neighborhood groups.
There are tons of resources out there,
so avail yourself and get help.
Just because you've created a life
doesn't mean you automatically get a cape and superhuman powers.
Do your best
Too strict or too lenient.
Too controlling or too supportive.
It's like walking a tight rope between
two landing posts, but both are on fire-the closer you get to either
side, the more you get burned.
The bottom-line is this: Parenting
is hard work, so just get informed, do your best and feel confident
knowing that.
Always show love
The key to good parenting despite
the other details is this: always tell your child you love them,
and let your actions speak louder than the words.
Consider their needs
As a child progresses through the
various stages of growing up, pressures and challenges will come
from different sources.
Always inquire about and consider
their needs.
Reflect as best you can, on your experience
at their age, but recognize that the pressures have changed.
Then find the best response that doesn't
conflict with your values.
Create an environment supportive
of Collaborative Communication
As the world becomes an increasingly
dangerous place, ensuring communication pathways don't get blocked
is your best bet that your child will confidently share his/her
challenges and let you into his/her world.
